Mayu Intern Position -- Help with New Product Launch!
Brief Description:
During Mayu’s 3-month intern program, interns are given the opportunity to develop both professionally and personally. Mayu encourages creativity and is open to exchanging ideas, suggestions and thoughts with our interns as they relate to potential projects and expansion efforts. When you work for Mayu, you will not be micro-managed, but we do expect that you complete your tasks in a high-quality fashion with close attention to detail. This is an excellent chance for somebody looking to gain valuable small business development, e-commerce and social media experience. Mayu interns have the opportunity to be instrumental in the future growth of Mayu and we look forward to exchanging our respective expertise.
Time Commitment: June-August+ 2012. This is a virtual internship (involving bi-weekly phone calls with Mayu) that will require approximately 10-15 hours per week. If you are in Chicago, this is a big plus.
Duration: 3 months with opportunity to extend
Compensation: Unfortunately we can’t offer monetary compensation. However, depending on performance, we may be able to compensate you with product. Interns will receive discounts on all of Mayu’s products for themselves and others.
Requirements: & Education:
- BA/BS degree, Master's preferred (great job for current students)
- Familiarity with Wordpress or similar blogging platform
- Avid user of social media (FB, Twitter, Pintrest etc)
- Fashion conscious and up to speed on latest online shopping trends -- reads fashion blogs, receives internet fashion specials etc
Major Responsibilities:
- Help to coordinate the launch of Mayu 2012 Designs -- we haven't designed new products for 2 years, so there is a lot to be done, especially to create a buzz around the new items!
- Increasing Mayu's distribution channels -- shortlisting and contacting potential stores and brand ambassadors to sell and represent Mayu
- Updating Mayu's socila media communications by creating and blasting content
- Communications with Mayu's email database; brainstomring content for and writing e-news letters
- Writing and distributing press release regarding new product launch
- Brainstorming special pre-launch promotions and communicating them
- Other activities and special projects based upon need and intern’s personal interests
Skills & Abilities:
- Prior communications, business and/or sales experience
- Ability to think critically, strategize and analyze current market trends
- Able to work independently and take responsibility for completing tasks in a timely manner
- Prompt email communicator (most communications with Mayu will take place via email)
- Excellent writing skills (will ask for writing sample upon contracting)
- Good organizational skills and able to multi-task -- can create simple workplan to outline workflows
- Not afraid of data collection/gathering and data entry
- Self-starter, responsible, resourceful, motivated, creative, and confident and anything else you feel necessary to do a good job!
