Hola! Today we will be exploring Mayu’s NEW fair trade, 100%  Alpaca Knit Cardigan, part of our 2010 Fall collection. For this Closer Look we consulted Mayu’s designer, Laddhavan Sutana. Laddhavan had the following to say regarding the design of this beautiful piece.
“The cardi was initially a large shawl. I wanted something lofty, enveloping for the chilly days of Autumn, yet it had to be unique and fashionable – a great layering piece. The stitch was picked out by the artisan’s in Peru. I told Kate I wanted something open, but not your standard eyelet.
I love thick knit cardigans, but we wanted to stay away from sized garments since we sell to such a wide scope of customers, so I modified the shawl to fit like a cardigan by merging the ends so it wouldn’t slip off the body and with the lapel, it looks like a cardigan. But when you see the back, it is open. I love this piece and it is perfect for the edgier “sweater girls” out there.”
This sweater has a lot of character with its unique stitching (which took a while to perfect and caused Kate at least 10 headaches during her last trip to Peru!) design and shape. It is a true work of art! You “sweater girls” better get a move on your fall shopping. First stop – www.Shopmayu.com. Â Layer the Alpaca Cardigan with skinny jeans and boots. You can’t go wrong!
