Mayu means River in the Quechua language. The Quechua language is the native, indigenous language of Peru. The people also speak Spanish, which I learned to speak fluently while in Peru and continue to practice by spending time with Spanish-speaking individuals.
When I conducted a google search about mass produced alpaca products, none of the names I found appealed to me. They were very generic. One of my host’s daughters was named Marjorie, but the family called her Mayu. I always liked that name. Mayu simply fit as a business name because of my fondness for my host sister and the fact that it is unique, with Peruvian roots.

I love the meaning behind words. Thank you for sharing your story with us! I’m a big fan of my Mayu halfie and literally live in it during the cold months in Chicago – which, as you well, know, is many months!

Thanks for dropping by Megy and sharing your love for your Mayu halfie! Yes, I agree Chicago is cold…it’s already cold with the weather we’ve been having lately, so I am sure you are putting your halfie to good use.
